Let's begin

So the spring semester has ended. Good. On to better things. I'm working on my own film this summer. I'd like to do it in claymation; it sounds like a lot of fun and really interesting to work with. I went to Blick today and bought some plastalina and I was just excited looking at all the different kinds of clay and wires I can possibly use. I'm gonna do some tests with materials soon, can't wait to try it.

In the meantime, here's a link to the short film project I worked on in my intermediate animation class this semester: Grounded. Everyone was divided into teams, and each person in each team was given a shot. Mine is at the end when she picks the rocket up from the closet. It was definitely more difficult than I expected working within a group like that, but in the end we got it done. I think it looks pretty cool too. I'm happy with what I got out of it and really looking forward to next semester.

I found this picture and I thought it was pretty cute. I'm not sure who the artist is, but it makes me smile.

In summary

Right now I'm working on many, many things. I hope to have them completed and posted in the next few weeks. They're getting done slowly though. Last weekend was DDay for the SJSU A/I students.
My fellow ukulele players and I worked hard to get this going and it turned out fantastic. I can't thank them enough. I never thought I would gather enough courage to get on a stage in front of such a big audience, and up until the moment I started playing I was absolutely terrified. I did it though. And it was a blast! Best DDay ever! I was also named Vice President of the ShrunkenHeadMen club for next year. I'm excited to start working with such a great cabinet and keep it fired up!

This summer I'm planning a short stop-motion film with a small crew of SJSU students. A new experience, for sure. We'll see how it goes. That's my update for now though. I should have more stuff this next week to post, but with finals coming up I promise nothing. Although I suppose I could add a quick drawing I did a few weeks ago from figure drawing.

Seeing elephants again

Actually, I've had zombies on the brain the last week more than elephants. I watched the first episode of Walking Dead, a little late I admit, but I watched it. It was pretty good. It's not really any thing new on the zombie front, but then again there have been a lot of variations. It drew me in though; got me crouched against the back of my couch in a ball.

Anywho, most of the stuff I've been working on are animation pencil tests and Maya modeling, both of which aren't finished yet. I'll probably put those up at some point. For now, I have more elephants! I think next week is the last animal week. I'm gonna miss these elephants. They really have some fun personalities. Gotta fire it up!

Been awhile...

So it has taken me a long time to sit down and pay attention to this. It's always at the back of my mind, whispering, "Sara. Sara, remember that thing you started way back then? It'd be kinda cool now, huh? Huh? HUH?"
I've been reading the Walt Stanchfield notes a lot lately. I haven't been really moved by much writing in the last few years, but reading just his notes is incredibly inspiring. He mostly talks about simple things that you kinda thought you already knew, but after you hear him say it you realize you don't know AT ALL. It doesn't just put you off though. It just makes you want to try harder; be more realistic with yourself. If you're interested in reading them yourself here's the link: "Gesture Drawing for Animation"

I have quite a lot to catch up on. I'm gonna try and just start small. Be realistic. So this is a little of what I was up to this summer, and some elephant studies from last Friday at the Oakland Zoo.

Captain's log, star 001

Alright, so begins my professional lifestyle. I keep not posting something because I figure I will go out tomorrow and sketch some cool scene to pin up or a few really inspirational figure studies, but truth be told there is no time like the present. And I am a bucket of cliches. So, here's stage one of my pencil redering for my final forrest project.

Looking at it in this smaller form, I can really notice all the things I'd like to change, haha. I need to get goin' on my night scene now.
On a much happier note, here is a picture of my first white flower and sweet pea :)

Isn't it perdy?
hehe
